3 Most Favorite Basecamp of the Mt Rinjani Trek Summit
If you have the plan to visit Lombok, do not forget to try an exploration activity to this place. It has been popular that this area is a worthwhile place to climb. Before deciding, there are some points of hiking trails in this area.
1. Sembalun Basecamp of Mt Rinjani trek summit

The Sembalun Route is the most famous of all hiking trails. If you leave from Mataram city, it is 1 hour by car. Sembalung is a sub-district in the eastern part of Lombok and also a highland area like Dieng in Central Java.
Apart from trailheads, Sembalun is also a destination due to its agritourism. As your Mt Rinjani trek summit, you can start your trek to this mount from Sembalun Basecamp in East Lombok and disembark at Senaru Basecamp in North Lombok.
Sembalun Basecamp is located at an altitude of approximately 1,156 meters above sea level. The air is cool at night and cooler in the afternoon. For inexperienced and non-professional climbers, the estimated climbing time is quite long.
For post 1 in this basecamp, you will go head through the wide savannah to Post 1. You can drive from the front of Savannah to the final gate of the climb by courtesy car. It took about 30 minutes by car because the road is very bumpy and rocky.
Then, you will find a real climb. From the last gate to Post 1, it is about an hour’s trek through hilly savannah with few trees. This post is at an altitude of approximately 1,300 meters above sea level. It will be a wonderful Mt Rinjani trek summit.
After that, you should continue your exploration from post 1 to post 2. The trekking from here is the savanna area of the mountain. On bright days, you can see the sea and parts of North Lombok. Trekking to post 2 took about 1.5 hours by car.
Post 2 is at an altitude of 1,500 meters above sea level and the truck begins to climb. For most climbers, this is the first test to reach the Mt Rinjani trek summit. Uphill will be the main meal.
Brace yourself as you pass through an uphill stretch from this stretch where your knees meet your chest. Post 3 is at an altitude of 1,800 meters above sea level and lasts 1.5 hours. Then, continue to Prawangan Sembalun.
The first climbing test continues to Prawangan Sembalung. There are heaps of regrets here. The hilltops here are like deceptive climbers. Once there, you will reach Prawangan Sembalun at an altitude of 2,639 meters above sea level and encounter other hilltops many times until the post takes 3 to 5 hours.
After Prawangan Sembalun, you have to reach the Peak. This is the lower caldera before reaching the summit of the mount. Climbers usually arrive here in the afternoon to set up tents and fetch water. Prawangan Sembalung is the last post of the Mt Rinjani trek summit.
After resting, the climbers begin their attack on the summit early in the morning. It took about 6 hours to reach the top of it with an altitude of 3,726 meters from Phrawangan Sembalung and about 2.5 hours to return to Phrawangan Sembalung.
Climbing this mount is not complete without visiting Segara Anak. It can be seen from Prawangan Sembalung on a clear day. Although it feels close, Segara Anak is far from Prawangan Sembalun. However, the tracking of the Mt Rinjani trek summit is terrible.
You have to go down a steep road, but there are bonuses in some places. It took about 6 hours by car from Prawangan Sembalung to Segara Anak. But the view is unsolicited again. Climbers usually spend the night at Segara Anak at an altitude of 2000 meters above sea level.
There is also a spring for replenishing drinking water and a natural hot spring near the campsite. The next morning, you can head home by walking along the lakeshore to Batu Ceper Shadow Post and heading to Phrawangan Senaru.
The pillars are shaped like rocks shaded by lush fir trees. Hikers usually rest here with views of Segara Anak and Mount Barjari. The tracking from Batu Ceper to Plawangan Senaru is a steep climb with rocky hills. The estimated travel time is 5 hours for the Mt Rinjani trek summit.
The Mount caldera is 2,461 meters above sea level and it is one of the most popular places for climbers to pitch their tents. View to the top of Mount Rinjani from Prawangan Senaru.
2. Senaru Basecamp of Mt Rinjani Trek Summit

Senaru basecamp is lower than Sebalun. The site is located at an altitude of 601 meters above sea level. The post is also not that long for the Rinjani trek summit. There are three posts between Senaru Basecamp and Plawangan Senaru.
However, climbers typically use this route only for the descent. So, they stopped thinking too much about the rest of the items and went straight for it. The driving time for this route is approximately 6 hours.
The Senaru route is very different from the Sembalun route. The route is green due to uneven forest vegetation and not only pine trees grow here. Mt Rinjani trek summit is the best choice for relaxation.
3. Aik Berik Basecamp of Mt Rinjani Trek Summit.
The Aik Berik route is a new route in his Aik Berik village in North Batulyan District, Central Lombok. BTNGR opened in the middle of November 2018. The registration post is at Jalan Raya Aik Berik Village, near the attractions of Threads Nets Waterfall and Threads Stokel Waterfall.
This trail does not reach the summit. The climb can only reach Prawangan Aik Berik. The crater rim-shaped area can also be used as a campsite. Prawangan is about 2,500 meters above sea level. Enjoy views around the crater, the shores of Lake Segara Anak, Mount Baru Jali, and Mount Rinjani.
It takes about 7 hours of climbing to reach Plawangan Aik Berik. The Aik Berik trail in the rainforest feels shaded and sheltered from heavy rain. It is one of the natures of Mt Rinjani trek summit.
This trail becomes slippery during the wet season as it is covered with leaves and humus debris. High altitudes up to 1,500m are also home to many animals and leeches, so shoes, t-shirts, leggings and0 trousers should be worn for comfort.
The total distance of the Aik Berik hiking trail is approximately 38 km round trip. Details of yesterday’s trip. Entrance to the Forest – Heading 1 for 2 hours. On this trail, you will travel through a tropical forest.
Part of the road is covered with bushes. A large river with clear water runs through the middle of the street. It is one of the Mt Rinjani trek summit. At post 1 you can rest for a while as the post is still in good shape. Watch out for leech and passed attacks while moving.
Even Post 1 was out of stock until I went to the post office. Post 1 has a small creek so you can spend the night here. The route between these two posts is still unknown. The slope of the route is about 5 to 20 degrees.
Passets and leeches are also attached to the climber’s feet. Before post 2 there is an intersection leading to pos-3. If you want to take a break from Pos-2, there are sauces you can use to cook with.
Moreover, the path between these two posts is very difficult. There are very long and tall fern lamps. The slopes are full of fern trees left and right. My advice is to try to walk calmly and slowly with small steps.
The path of Mt Rinjani trek summit after this fern is up and down again. The state of the road after climbing the fern is the road on the valley side. So, you have to be more careful not to step on the overgrown moss and slip.
In addition, the road between these two posts is getting harder and harder. There are approximately at least 10 hills to climb. In some places, the trail runs along the edge of a cliff with no safety fence. It is important to make more cautious decisions.
There are so many basecamps on this mountain. You can choose one of them based on your trekking. Or you can choose Adi Trakker to guide your journey.. You can even try to get to the Mt Rinjani trek summit. In that way, it will safer.
